Click here for a report on Victor’s funeral, held at Ickworth on 7th October 2010, twenty-five years after his death in Monte Carlo.
The only property at Ickworth now in Hervey family hands is the church, bought by John Bristol shortly before his wedding. But Victor’s sole surviving son, Frederick Hervey, 8th Marquess of Bristol, can perhaps take encouragement from the example of the St Clair-Erskines, Earls of Rosslyn. The 5th Earl beggared the family, but his great-grandson, Peter St Clair-Erskine, the 7th Earl (born 1958; a policeman who heads the Royal protection squad), retains ownership of his family’s place of worship – Rosslyn Chapel, which features prominently in the Da Vinci Code.
